Wed 27th April 2016. Kendal to Tewkesbury.
We set off on Wednesday to stop at Tewkesbury on the way down. It's been a regular stop for me on the way down to the South West.
Lovely Abbey at Tewkesbury. We had a nice walk around and heard a choral singing practice in the Abbey.
Whilst on the site we had our first mishap. The electric supply was tripped because we were using a heater and a kettle at the same time (naughty us). When it tripped it must have blown the element in the fridge. How can that happen? Anyway we can use the fridge on gas rather than electricity so it could be worse.
Our evening was spent relaxing, listening to the Radio 2 Folk Awards. I am trying to get Janice enthused about folk music prior to our trip to the Cambridge Folk Festival in July but I think it probably had the opposite effect as it was too much slow music by older and dead people, Joan Armatrading, Norma Waterstone and Sandy Denny. It needed some younger performers and lively music instead of dirges.
Thurs 28th April 2016.
On Thursday we set off to a CL (certified location, or small site) at Aylesbeare, about 19 miles east of Exeter. It's a nice rural site with lovely new hard standings, caravaners and motor home users get excited about nice level hard standings. This trip we have decided to try to do some bird identification. So far we have spotted a blue tit, a wood pigeon, a robin and after a lengthy debate, what we think is a chaffinch. Birdwatching doesn't sound too exciting but it is giving us some amusement speculating on what birds we might see. I am currently watching a grey squirrel upside down on a bird nut feeder.
Watch out for my regular educative bird spotting features!
We have organised a caravan repair man to come to see us on site on Friday morning so hopefully we will be fully operational. We then set off to cycle to Sidmouth.
Quite a nice little seaside town with genteel hotels along the front. During a short shower of rain we took cover in a small Department Store and I now know where the Two Ronnies got their outfits from, both male and female clothes looked a bit dated and garish.
The cycling is certainly up and down. We have located a pub for our evening meal in the village of Tipton St John. It will take us 5 minutes to get there and 25 minutes to get back, I better not have too much to drink!
